Term 5

6JL have thoroughly enjoyed their study of Howl’s Moving Castle (written by Diana Wynne Jones). They also relished the opportunity to watch the Studio Ghibli film adaptation. Based on the book, pupils have written explanation texts about Howl’s castle and how it is operated.


To celebrate the Queen’s 70th Jubilee, Year 6 designed and decorated pebbles with paint. We are really lucky to be able to take these home: have a look at the amazing results!

Term 4

Year 6 have been trying extremely hard this term, and as a thank you for their hard work, we treated them to an Easter egg hunt! Here are some action shots from our hunt. Happy Easter - have a wonderful, safe half term!

This term, Year 6 have been learning about the Maya civilisation. As part of this topic, we created Maya- inspired clay tiles. Have a look at these fabulous examples: what aspects of the Maya culture can you identify? Why have certain colours been used?

Term 3


In Art this term we have studied the controversial art form of graffiti. We have discussed the controversial nature of graffiti and enjoyed debating the pros and cons of graffiti and to what extent it is art or just a mess- the children got very involved with this discussion. We have studied famous graffiti artists such as Dondi White. Through our cross-curricular approach, we looked at the Berlin Wall and the history of this guarded concrete barrier that physically and ideologically divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989. We produced our own anti-war graffiti pieces conveying messages of peace and unity.





Term 2


Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed our World War 1 topic this term. We have done lots of Cross-curricular working: linking History, PSHE and English together. Following anti-bullying week, we looked at the life of Walter Tull and the reasoning behind him not receiving a Military Cross. We then wrote letters to Ben Wallace (The Secretary State of the Armed Forces) regarding this matter. Fingers crossed we will receive a response soon!


This term, we have begun looking at data – we started off our topic by creating bar charts and pictograms. We thought carefully about the use of scales and creating a key. Take a look at some of our great work below!

Term 1

6JL have settled into their new class incredibly well; Mr Lund and Mrs Rogers are incredibly proud of everyone’s attitude towards learning!

Below are some examples of our amazing learning.

During English lessons, we have been studying the book “The Savage” by David Almond and illustrated by Dave Mckean. The diary entries we have written, are from the perspective of an evil bully named Hopper. Whilst writing these diary entries, we tried to show empathy towards this character and unpicked all his struggles in life.

For Science, whilst undertaking our Evolution and Inheritance topic, we participated in an experiment to gain an insight into how beaks have evolved over time so that particular species gain an advantage through their feeding habits: we certainly enjoyed this activity (as witness in the photos)!
